Arvind Kejriwal, Other AAP Leaders Apologise to Arun Jaitley in Defamation Case

New Delhi, Apr 2: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Raghav Chadha apologised to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a defamation case. The AAP leaders issued a joint letter to apologise Jaitley. The BJP leader has also accepted the apology issued by Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, suggested media reports. The defamation case has not been withdrawn yet by Jaitley.
In December 2015, Jaitley filed a civil defamation case against Kejriwal and AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee, claiming that they made “false and defamatory” statements in the case involving DDCA, thereby harming his reputation. Jaitley has sought Rs 10 crore in damages from Kejriwal and other AAP leaders. The Finance Minister had filed another defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal after his former lawyer Ram Jethmalani called him a ‘crook’. On being asked by Arun Jaitley whether the word “crook” used by him was in his personal capacity or as per the instruction of Arvind Kejriwal, the senior lawyer said it has been used by him on instruction from his client (Kejriwal). However, the AAP chief denied it.
Last month, Kejriwal apologized to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Congress leader Kapil Sibal for making unverified allegations of corruption against them, following which they withdrew their defamation cases against. The AAP leader also apologised to Bikram Majithia whom he had accused of being part of the drug trade in Punjab.
